wordpress problem fixed

i was having a weird issue where i could not upload to wordpress from my web browser and to be honest i did not have enough free time to fool with it.  however i got tired of it giving me the error today and figured out it was the .htaccess file.  apparently lots of people have been having the same issue when hosting their own wordpress site on 1and1 or some other hosting company that if not just a wordpress host.  to get wordpress uploads working on 1and1 i had to paste this code into a .txt file and ftp it up to my site and then rename it to .htaccess since windows does not file filenames that start with a dot.

below is the text that i used to create the file:

—————Start of Copied Text——————

<files .htaccess>
order allow,deny
deny from all
</files>

ServerSignature Off

<files wp-config.php>
order allow,deny
deny from all
</files>

# BEGIN WordPress
<IfModule mod_rewrite.c>
RewriteEngine On
RewriteBase /
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-f
RewriteCond %{REQUEST_FILENAME} !-d
RewriteRule . /index.php [L]
</IfModule>

# END WordPress

Options All -Indexes
AddType x-mapp-php5 .php
AddHandler x-mapp-php5 .php

—————End of Copied Text——————

once i created this file in the root of my wordpress folder and renamed it .htacces my uploads started working correctly.  if anyone else out there is seeing, hopefully this will be a quick fix for you as well.  it also fixed the problem where i would hit “publish” the page would disappear and my post would be lost.  that was a big plus as this was keeping me from posting even on top of my procrastination and general laziness.
